Li'l Gotham blind bag mini-figure review

Kotobukia have been really getting my attention lately. Their recent line of reasonably priced "ArtFX" statues, in their "Art FX" line, as well as their growing line of model kits, but most of all their new mini-figure line, based on the "Li'l Gotham" comic.

Li'l Gotham is a comic, written by Derek Fridolfs and drawn by Dustin Nguyen,  based on different holidays, where the cast of Batman are drawn in a, sort of, super deformed, child-like style- as if everyone in the Bat-universe had their caricature done at the fun fair. Which has been captured wonderfully, the sculpting just blows me away. I can't believe how much detail in on something so small! On some of them, I can barely see the seem line. Lets compare one, in size, to a lego and MOTU mini-figure.

These things are tiny (probably why you get two in a pack), about 5cm in height (depending on the pose) and have no paint on them, very much like Mattel's M.U.S.C.L.E. toys, from the 80s- so they have zero articulation (being solid, rubber-like plastic) but the detail on them really is great. Like the circular zipper handle on Catwoman's costume, and the little cat, resting in her lap.

Similar to the old "Monster in my pocket" line, all seven  character comes in  six different colours (blue, light pink, yellow, green, orange, and neon pink) so that's , potentially, 42 mini-figs to collect, if you're a completest. I say potentially, because the "kneeling down"Batman is a rare figure -exclusive to Japan, so if you see these bags get an official Western release, then this will be the closest you get to him- outside of ebay; a picture of him on the enclosed leaflet...

Sorry, non-Japanese people, no "I've hurt my knee" Batman for you

The fact that I want to buy more- if only to get Harley Quinn- is testament to how much I enjoy these. It's the Batman universe, and I enjoy the slight retro appeal of being mono-coloured rubber figures (because one day I'll have to start collecting M.U.S.C.L.E. figs again), and I really like the poses on each figure. They  emote the character of each figure so well, from Robbin's, tense, fighting stance, or Poison Ivy's, tranquil, seated position. And, if your artistically inclined, you might have a go at painting them, to really bring out the detail. Like I did...badly.
It was supposed to be a drawing of a dead Batman. But it just looks like a sad cat

If you happen upon some in your local comic shop (like I did) and they're not too expensive (I paid £2.49 for the first couple of bags, before the shop bumped the price up to £2.99) then certainly pick up a couple of bags. They  have great, sculpted, detail- especially the poses- and they don't take up much room, so you could  get the entire collection, without the need to for a new shelving unit. But you might have to find someone to swap your doubles with.

Got...got...oh, need! Sawp you two yellow Robins for that flesh Joker
